Opening Day celebrates the beginning of the new school year

Hilton School District staff gathered in the High School auditorium the week before students arrive to gear up for a new school year. In addition to introducing new staff, which includes one administrator, 23 teachers and 31 school related professionals, the School Related Professional and Teacher of the Year Awards were presented (more to come). Staff  also honored Superintendent David Dimbleby, who retires Dec. 31.

Superintendent Dimbleby showed the audience Simon Sinek's TED Talk about the Golden Circle, where people are challenged to examine not what they do, but why they do it. The topic was the focus of the administrative retreat held in July. "I believe the answer to why we do what we do is embedded in the words written in our mission and vision statements," he said. Several staff members were asked the question and their responses can be seen in the video below.

The morning also featured High School Student Council Co-Presidents Alexa Miles and Emily Porcello, who talked about the many fond memories they have of their years in Hilton and what they are looking forward to during their senior year.
