Fourth grader Abigail Hilburger wins Northwood Geo Bee

Northwood Elementary School recently held its National Geographic Geo Bee with Abigail Hilburger, a fourth grader in Laura Schellhammer's class, receiving top honors. The second place champion was Kayla Anstett, a sixth grader in Laura Mayer's class finishing only one question behind.

The other finalists were: Josh Oliveri from Jen Sica's fifth grade class; Nick Murrer from Stefanie Page's fourth grade class; Mateus Hoyo-Lambertucci from Laura Shellhammer's fourth grade class; Sydney Heise from Donna Serenka's fifth grade class; Molly Standing from Julie Fiege's sixth grade class; Michael Mitrano from Laura Shellhammer's fourth grade class; Kayla Anstett from Laura Mayer's sixth grade class; Doron Indelicato from Julie Fiege's sixth grade class; and Michael Whelehan from Coleen MacCracken's fifth grade class.

In the grade three Geography Bee Challenge, Andrew Paolini from Heide Gombatto's class came in first and Joshua Anstett from Jen Trinchitella's class came in second. The other finalists were Sam Guzzetta, Aiden Kennedy, Joey Giuliano, Meghan Wahl, Maddie DeGraeve, Sydney Lenhard, Jake McMahon and Elijah Diakohimihalis.

“I must commend all 10 finalists from both bees," said Ed Donnelly, REACH teacher and the event's organizer. “Every finalist put forth their best effort and with principled, sportsmanlike behavior."

Abigail will go on to take the State Qualifying Test to determine if she advances in the competition.
