Hilton hosts Informational Forum on Understanding Standards and Assessments in NYS

The Hilton School District and Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES recently offered an informational forum designed to help parents and educators better understand the NYS learning standards and  assessments. The presenters included Dr. Marijo Pearson, assistant superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development at Monroe 2 BOCES; Dr. Michelle Ryan, assistant superintendent for Accountability, Assessment and Technology at Monroe 2 BOCES; Hilton CSD Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Dr. Barbara Surash; and Hilton CSD Director of K-12 Learning and Staff Development Karen Spillman.


The session included:
- Introduction and review of NYS education changes
- History and overview of Learning Standards - ELA and Math
- Review of curriculum and standards work in Hilton CSD
- Overview of the role, purpose, and types of  assessments
- Review of sample questions on the NYS 3-8 Assessments
- Review and discussion of NYS data reports and use
- Open Forum: Questions/answer session on NYS Learning Standards and  Assessments
