What is a Board of Education Study Session?

The Hilton Board of Education holds study sessions when additional information on a topic is requested. The study session involves participation by school administrators, staff, parents, community members, students and the board members themselves. Board of Education meetings begin at 7 p.m. with the study session taking place during the first hour. The following outlines the protocol for a study session:

  • Participants sign in and are seated at tables. The various stakeholder groups are represented at each of the tables. A facilitator and note taker are assigned within each group.

  • The Board of Education president calls the meeting to order and the Pledge of Allegiance is recited.

  • The superintendent explains the format of the evening and presents information to the groups as a whole.

  • Each group discusses a series of questions.

  • A representative from each group reports out the groupís findings.

  • The superintendent outlines the next steps and transitions to the regular board meeting.

The board will be holding a study session on the Urban-Suburban Program - Tuesday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m., Merton Williams MS.
